The CV Index, is a privately managed serviceby interested members, that was first established September 1998.

As far as our research could discover, we were the web's first truly multi-industry searchable database of CVs / Resumes. The idea was to establish a simple to use and easy to find "club" or group of CVs which had powerful "searchability", which was freely and publicly open to all CVSearchers - from employers to networkers. A sort of mutual self promotion society, if you like.

The internet has provided a golden opportunity for the 'emancipation' of many of the daily functions of Jobs Searching. A task which up until the advent of the web, was mostly filled by middle men (and women), who have (necessarily and sometimes not), sought to manipulate your need for work, with their need to earn a living for themselves. These two requirements, not necessarily perfectly compatible.

Today we are a team of 25 staff, comprising 3 principals, 18 full-time and four freelancers & consultants, all operating by "Remote Office"

The CV Index seeks to provide a more 'direct' route to career management and indeed advancement. We reckon that in the near future all workers; from C E O's to cleaning operatives, professionals to manual labour...will have at least one web based "career management centre", where all aspects of their working life can be controlled, managed and organised.

 Simply provide the members with an intuitively powerful set of career management  tools, which we think we have provided and allow much of the pace and outcome of the members' jobs search, to be dictated and controlled by the needs of the Jobseeker and not A N Other.

Today, it is our opinion that we are the largest independent searchable database of CVs & Resumes on the web. We are looking to consolidate this position through strong marketing, above the line advertising and membership networking. Our present membership numbers in excess of 700,000 worldwide, across 90 countries and presently growing at 15-20% per annum.

Whilst currently, we predominantly operate within the English Language, we will aim to cover most major languages in due course

The larger we get, the more visible you become

Initially all members CVs were laid our using a flat hierarchical links structure. Each new member was laboriously added in a manual fashion. Whilst this method of building the database was effective in the task of presenting the information to the viewers, it rapidly became impractical, time consuming and very cumbersome to manage, when our membership population headed for the tens of thousands.

The process of managing and promoting members' CVs was then much improved by the introduction of our first bespoke dynamic pages: "CVIndexBase". Using Access technology, we discovered that this became rapidly obsolete in that it was too slow and did not allow for rapid expansion.

Today the powerful CVSearching, CVListing and CVManagement Functions have been constructed using a backbone of MySQL database, and extensive ASP - PHP bespoke coding and a dedicated server structure
