As a fork lift truck operator you would transport heavy goods around depots such as factories and warehouses.
In this work you would have to pick up pallets by guiding the forks of the lift truck into the open sides of the pallet and then raise or lower the load to the right height for transporting.
You would have to carefully travel with the load to the new position and raise or lower the pallet into place, then you would withdraw the forks. Finally you would reverse the truck and proceed to the next job.
For this kind of work you need to be responsible, able to work quickly and safely, capable of assessing weights and judging distances, able to follow written instructions, complete worksheets and keep records.
Given the obvious dangers of such a job, attention to Health and Safety procedures is a vital aspect of the job training. Most Forklift operators will be required to possess extensive attention to the safe operation of plant and machinery.
This aspect of the work has become far more impotant in view of the increasingly litigious practices in modern commerce.
