- Objective: to develop a planning model for overall refinery operations with an aim to maximise profits.
- Completed additional work to evaluate Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) used GAMS optimisation software to develop planning model.
- Utilised planning model to solve case study for a typical UK refinery to produce a ULSD & to evaluate the effect it has on the refinery profit.
- Project Management Module : Group assignment – The Business Management Challenge
- Objective: Contest between small teams (5) competing as successful business in a marketplace.
- Constructed business plans, pricing strategy, sales & marketing plans, trend & sector analysis to establish business direction & changes required.
- Gained success with customer growth & market gains, increasing earnings on balance sheet.
- Material Selection Module: Objective: to analyse oil pump problem for an oil company & establish new material required to make the pump spring hydrogen sulphide corrosion resistant.
- Researched a variety of materials & their properties; with subsequent detailed research with stainless steel, titanium alloys, nickel based alloys and nickel cobalt based super alloys.
- Concluded that the most suitable material satisfying all design specification was nickel-cobalt based super alloy known as Carpenter MP35N alloy
- Process Intensification (PI) Module: Objective: to complete feasibility study of PI in manufacturing Nitrated organic compound.
- Evaluation of technologies to replace large, expensive or energy intensive equipment with smaller & more efficient processes at reduced cost.
